My “Guest – Think About It”

I have kept in touch with an old friend from my  “restaurant years”  –  1986-1994  –  we spent hours and hours back then, sharing life over coffee, every week… until Ellen and I  moved from the Barre/Montpelier Vermont area to Morrisville.

He writes a  “monthly letter”  to several hundreds of friends to encourage them in their respective journeys thru life… he gives them things to “Think About”... strangely enough he has titled this monthly letter  “Think About It”

I have tried to respond to him about what he is saying each month… and we go back and forth like we used to… only… this month he asked me if I would like to write a guest  “Think About It”…  so… I did…

He sent out what I wrote this morning… enjoy!

GUEST – THINK ABOUT IT – GUEST

                                                                                                           PHILIP WOLFF

“If I was invited to speak to a group of people I had never met… what would I say to them?  Hmmmm…  So… I asked the Lord…. “What should I say?”  His reply was  “Just tell them your story”.  My story is a long one since I have been traveling the road of life a long time…. I am half way thru my 84th year at this point…I had a dramatic collision with God in 1968, which also means the past 51 of those years I have been walking with the Lord.

I am regularly asked to talk about my conversion experience… any time I tell my story, almost anywhere, people will  respond and tell me  “you should write a book”… I never did… explaining that, if I did write a book, every year I would have to buy all the remaining copies, burn them and then write another book… because every day I walked with Him, He would tweak everything I know.  I did almost write a book entitled:  “What I Learned After I Knew Everything”  but decided instead, to tell others what I told my wife.  “I’ve taught you everything I know. Now that you have learned both those things… you are on your own”.

Those two things, however, are very important things… #1: GOD IS    #2: I AM NOT HIM

Once I had that settled… the next step was to:  “Surrender all that I know of myself, to all that I know of Him”  This was a pretty important step, since we are all totally unique persons, each God’s own special “snowflake”, no two of us alike, each on our own special journeys and each at different places in that journey. Once I surrendered that way, it was simple to proceed to Romans 12 and  “present Him my body as a living sacrifice”…  which He showed me was actually my acceptable worship of Him.  I became a dead-alive  person.

Paul had already experienced that… which he tried to explain in Romans 7… a great understanding of his natural man and the struggle he had trying to stop something that can  never be stopped… by us… then Paul saw how it was designed to work as he cried out:  “Who shall deliver me from this body of death!”  He had already discovered it was Jesus, so it is good to understand that that was a “rhetorical” question… and when He reveals to us the next area He feels is “ready” to be changed… Jesus puts that area to death and replaces it with His very own life. Each area of death is replaced by His life.  I have been at this a long time… there are less things He shows me these days because so many areas have been put to death… I don’t have to  think about what is left alive of my natural man… because I know He will show me when it is time.

Over and over I have experienced what I call:  “the most powerful outworking of the Holy Spirit – His ability to eliminate me of me”…

I encourage everyone to just never stop seeking more of Him.  Press on each day for the rest of your life, because none of us will ever discover everything He is.  Make your goal simply be to: “live and move and have your being in Him”… experience His life every day… know experientially that  “For you to live is Christ”…. 24/7… every day.

There is another way than this… its called religion… but its end is a different kind of death… I have experienced that death…. I lived in that death for 32 years… the saddest of all my stories… it is posted on the God page of my new website…. should you want to read it.  Here is a link…

There is only one person who ever lived the Christian life…. His name is Jesus… He is still the only one who lives it… by replacing my life with His life.  I die… He lives.”

Gordon and Frances…

Finally finished my sketch of Gordon and Frances…. It was difficult to get back into the discipline of sketching after all this time away.  Thankful for the grace to accomplish such a special task as this… but even more thankful for all the wonderful relationships we have… especially for the one with Gordon and Frances for so many years…

I am posting this to honor them….

more about relationships…

I said more about relationships tonight on

But here on my personal blog I want to tell you about one of the oldest relationships I have.  It began almost 50 years ago, after we had opened our Christian Book Store in Allendale, N.J.

I received a phone call from a guy in Scotia, N.Y. who had also opened a small Christian Bookstore up there.. and he began to ask some questions…. that was the day I began to build a relationship with Gordon Kraus and his wife Frances.

We have each moved a few times… the Kraus’s to Pennsylvania and then North Carolina.  The Wolff’s to Vermont… and now to Massachusetts… we have traveled out their way a couple times… we have met together in a condo in Florida… but mostly it has been Gordon and Frances that have done the traveling…

They came up every year for years and years… making a swing every summer in their small motor home to visit family and friends in the NorthEast… never known anyone who worked as hard as they have to build and maintain relationships.

The past few years they have said over and over that this would be their last trip… but even came up after selling their motor home!

To honor that, I am going to attempt to sketch my favorite picture of them… below.

Not sure how long it will take after being unable to sketch for so long a period of time… but will give it a whirl over the weekend!

great report…

Had my follow up visit to see the doctor this morning… it went so much better than I could  ever have imagined… I took off into warp speed, thanking the Lord…

Doctor said he couldn’t hear anything rattling around in my lungs… blood pressure was 101/64…. my O-2 was 99 (best I’ve ever had on my oxygen)…. no fever… and he had just taken an A1C blood sugar test… usually running around 7 these days… last time (3 mos ago) it was 7.2… this time I had a number I have never even gotten close to ever before… the magic number actually that says your diabetes is basically under control… it was 6.4 … the doctor even said some nice things about my managing my diabetes well.

Then the sugar free icing on the cake was when he said…  see you again in 6 months”…!!!!

I went from there to the track at Gordon and had a nice 7 lap walk… also had walked there last Thursday and Friday (4 laps and 5 laps)… feeling so much better… sleeping really well  (only getting up once at night in the middle of 8 or 9 hrs. sleep)… family says I am looking much better…  hmmmm…  what do YOU think?     🙂
